  • Format: Blended Learning

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • define objectives of condition monitoring of machines and systems
  • detect faults in the running behaviour of machines
  • create reliable error diagnoses
  • identify and eliminate the root causes of failures and malfunctions
  • apply analytical procedures for error assessment
  • design holistic monitoring strategies using AI approaches
  • apply modern concepts like PHM (Prognostics and Health Management)

Subject of course

Maintenance management methodology and techniques; physical and technical failure characteristics; vibration fundamentals for root cause analysis; fault descriptors on rotors, bearings and gears; corrective measures and proactive improvements; holistic maintenance systems using AI methods; prescriptive approaches.New maintenance management concepts such as Prognostics and Health Management will also be introduced.

Teaching methods

Block course in PowerPoint presentation. Detailed PDF manuscripts (PowerPoint note pages) and animated PPS copies of the lectures are provided.

Mode of examination

Additional information

Block course

The lecture is held in a total of 5 block courses with a time frame of about 3 hours per block in presence. In order to plan their time, participants will receive an appointment calendar (Excel table) containing half-day dates when they are unable to attend. The appointments can then be optimally scheduled.

A fully detailed script and a collection of the Powerpoints discussed will be provided as pps. The scripts contain a series of questions for each topic to check the learning success.

Consultation appointments are offered via ZOOM or email.
