After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

Framework conditions of urban development:
Basic framework conditions in spatial design, technological changes, defining topography, urban differentiation, historical social structures

Urban development - historical and current:

Fall of the city wall, historical phases (neo - absolutism, industrialization), Vienna 's modern urban development 19th - 21st century: Red Vienna, Austrofascism, National Socialism, reconstruction, metropolitan region, undeveloped Vienna, social, technical, ecological and economic orientations of urban development and technical equipment, Technological innovations, Smart City

Instruments and strategies of urban development:

Ring road, general regulation plan, Otto Wagner's planning concept, fundamentals of the structural interventions in red Vienna, fascist and National Socialist planning (Greater Vienna), urban development guidelines, urban development plans, essential sector plans, strategic plans, SmartCity concept,

Instruments of politics:

Examples include housing promotion, tenancy law, land management, transport policy, participation, etc.

Current risks and opportunities:

Technological change (eg traffic etc.), sociological change (changed life models, etc.), climate change, political impacts.

Two excursions to typical areas where the long-term development of the city can be clarified. Experts are invited for this purpose.
