After successful completion of the course, students are able to recognize and analyze challenges, relevant topics and planning tools in Alpine regions and to devise possible solutions.               

Subject of course

The seminar looks at the current challenges facing Alpine regions in times of globalization, EU enlargement and the intensive use of EU Structural Fund programs. Based on on-site visits, lectures and introductory statements by experts from the field, the changing functions of the Alpine region, tools and strategies for its development as well as selected funding programs are presented and discussed.

Teaching methods

Topics regarding the Alpine region are discussed on the basis of posters and seminar reports

Possible solutions are discussed and defended as part of a presentation in front of representatives of an Alpine region.

2-day excursion to visit positive examples in a selected region (in the WS 2019 the destination is Eisenerz).
