Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe the nuclear fuel cycle, to depict uranium mining, to explain the accumulation and reprocessing, to discuss the difficulty of final disposal as well as to summarise the historical development of the military use from Hiroshima 1945 to North Korea 2009.

Subject of course

At the beginning a survey of all the different research reactors around the world will be presented. Afterwards a detailed look in the nuclear fuel cycle will be given. At the end of the course the military history from Hiroshima 1945 to the last nuclear weapon test in North Korea 2009 will be presented.
