Examination modalities

The results of both tests and the exercises handed in contribute 1/3 each to the final mark. 50% of the total points have to be achieved for a positive mark. Additionally, in each test you have to achieve 40% of the test points. In the summer semster 2020 because of Covid one test replaces two.

Participation in lectures and exercises is mandatory (Lehrveranstaltung mit immanentem Prüfungscharakter). One exercise afternoon can be skipped after a notice has been sent to the lecturer. All the same, the problems of the exercise afternoon have to be handed in and will be part of your grade. In the aforementioned case of a missed exercise, it has to be handed in individually.

If you failed one test you may participate in an additional test (Nachtest) at the beginning of the WS. If one test is negative and the other could not be attended for important reasons such as a test in another lecture or illness (certificate required), the additional test replaces both tests. If you failed both regular tests you will receive a negative mark.

If you plan to improve your mark through the additional test, please inform us when you are given insight into the 2nd test.

If you only failed for the test part in a previous VU, you can take credit of your previous exercises and only participate in the test.

Previous knowledge

Prorgramming skills e.g. from Datenverarbeitung für TPH I

If you have deficits here please refresh your programming skills, i.e.,  program, before the first exercise.

As an extension of the introduction to Fortran we also offer the elective VU Wissenschaftliches Programmieren consiting of three additional afternoons with elementary programming in Fortran.

For the physical applications:

Statistical physics, quantum mechenics, mechanis, electrodynamics.
