Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to plan, execute and document a small scientific project for a given technical/scientific task. Students are able to develop a project plan, conduct a literatur review of the state of the art and develop solutions for the given task. They will be able to implement their solutions in a laboratory experiment or software simulation. The students are able to document the results in a scientific report taking into account the rule of scientific writing. The students obtain in-depth knowledge and experience for the chosen research question and are able to explain and communicate the state of the art and the challenges related to the research question.

Subject of course

  • project delopment and planing
  • project execution
  • literature review
  • project documentation
  • project presentation
  • current scientific research questions in the field of automation, control engineering and robotics

Teaching methods

The students get access to the laboratory equipment and a scientific environment, which allows to solve short research project for a specific topic. This includes a literature review, simulation studies, experiment design and validation under the guidance of a scientific supervisor. The progress of the project is reported to the supervisor and other students in presentations. The results are documented in a scientific report. At the beginning of the course, a shor introduction to project management for scientific projects and the rules of good scientific conduct will be given.
