After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain the concept of energy services, make energy-economic assessments, analyze energy systems, and set up and explain energy balances.
Introduction to the notion of energy services and their relationship to economic development; - The role of technologies and learning processes in the development of energy systems; - The energy system: A brief overview of historical developments, current trends and possible future developments; - Global climate change: A primer on historical developments, current state and future consequences of greenhouse gas emissions; - Possible mitigation measures and policies, their costs, economic consequences, technical potentials and possible diffusion rates; - Future perspectives and scenarios, from energy services to climate change.
