After successful completion of the course, students are able to qualitatively and quantitatively describe the basic requirements for energy supply through electrical grids. The correlations between the historical development of energy supply and the future development towards regenerative energy systems are clear to the students. They are able to carry out basic grid planning calculations.
They know
-
the physical fundamentals of the conversion of all technically relevant forms of primary energy into electrical energy and their implementation forms in large and small power plants based on both renewable and conventional energy sources
-
the most important components of electrical grids and how they function
-
the theoretical operational basics of electrical energy systems and their implementation in the most important operational processes in Austria and Europe
Requirements for energy supply in general and for electrical energy supply in particular. Status of electrical energy systems and basics of sustainable electrical energy systems based on wind, solar and hydropower. Organisational and regulatory foundations of the electrical energy system in Austria and Europe. Selected examples of electrical energy systems worldwide.
Fundamentals of energy conversion in thermal and renewable power plants and small-scale plants, grid structure, substations and their components in transmission and distribution.
Fundamentals of calculation and simulation of electrical energy networks: AC and three-phase systems, symmetrical components and their application, power flow and short-circuit calculation.
Fundamentals of energy management: system and network operation, primary, secondary and tertiary control, power markets, balance groups and balancing energy.
Lecture with slide presentation, recorded microlectures, script, former examination questions, discussion of comprehension questions
