Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the complicated processes needed to operate the transmission and distribution grid. They can immediately be involved in SCADA, EMS or DMS projects.

Subject of course

The lecture shows how the classical electrical engineering theories meet every day power system operation. The description of the operation processes and the technology used in control centers is provided. The most relevant applications are theoretically and practically discussed.

  1. System operation control centers
  2. Power system monitoring
  3. Power system scenario analysis
  4. Power system  generation load balance
  5. Power systems posturing: static security
  6. Power systems posturing: angular stability
  7.  Power systems posturing: voltage stability
  8. Energy management systems: basic and advanced functions
  9. Distribution management systems: basic and advanced functions
  10. Excursion in a transmission or distribution control centre
