Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain quantities and laws, energy and forces in the current flow, electric and magnetic field, to understand general and local quantities of the electromagnetic field as well as the basic electrical circuit elements, to calculate simple circuits in DC, single-phase and poly-phase AC networks, to explain the operational characteristics of transformers and electrical machines, finally to know basic measuring instruments in electrical engineering and to apply measuring techniques.

Subject of course

  • Current flow, electric and magnetic field.
  • General and local quantities of the electromagnetic field.
  • Basic electric circuit elements.
  • Direct, single-phase alternating and poly-phase alternating current networks.
  • Fundamentals and operational behaviour of transformers and electric machines.
  • Fundamentals of electric measurement technology.

Teaching methods

The curriculum is supplemented with practical examples.

Mode of examination

Written

Additional information

Due to the current circumstances, the course will take place chiefly via distance learning. Details are given in the preliminary talk on Oct 4th 2022.

Examination modalities

The written examination consists of calculation examples and a theoretical part with sub-questions (multiple-choice). For some sub-questions calculations are mandatory, but the computational effort is much lower than for the calculation examples.

ATTENTION: The examination is carried out with Letto. You receive the exam via web application and enter the solutions there also. However, you perform the necessary calculations on paper. More information on this can be found in the download section.
