After successful completion of the course, students are able to perform the fundamental tasks concerning design and dimensioning of DC and poly-phase AC machines. This includes main dimensions, operational parameters as well as efficiency.

Design criteria for electrical machines and transformers, constructional configuration, computation methods for the various machine types, determination of main dimensions and substantial characteristics. Practical calculation and design of DC machines, synchronous machines and asynchronous machines.

Calculating exercises - design procedure.

Discussion of case studies - existing machines.
