After successful completion of the course, students are able to...
...describe the structure, operation and application of modern electron devices
...characterize the behavior during large and small signal operation
...describe device models
...explain basic analog and digital circuits
...analyze mostly analog circuits containing bipolar transistors, MOSFETs, and operational amplifiers
...construct transfer characteristics of (C)MOS circuits
...describe current trends in microelectronics
All important semiconductor devices and basic circuits, including diodes, bipolar transistors and field effect transistors. Structure, operation, and characterization, static and dynamic, small- and large-signal models. Basic circuits, in particular amplifiers, current and voltage sources, differential amplifer, power amplifers, basic circuits for digital electronics. Operational amplifiers characteristics and basic circuits. Emphasis on current trend in basic building blocks of microelectronics.
We aim at making the exercises both managable for students without previous knowledge in circuit analysis ("AHS") and interesting for students with ("HTL"). Therefore it is unavoidable that students coming from an AHS need slightly more time than for exercises of other similar courses. In each week additional problems ("zusätzliche Übungsaufgaben") are offered to increase your level of proficiency. We recommend to all students solving the additional problems in preparation for Klausuren!
Organization of Exercises: The exercises comprise Großgruppenübungen and Kleingruppenübungen (Sem 362 / EI 5, attendance mandatory). One of the groups will be taught in English, but students may also speak German there. At two separate dates before the Klausuren questions are answered that have arisen during solving problems in preparation for the Klausur.
The Kleingruppenübungen start 15 minutes after the given time (c.t.) and are designed for a duration of 60 minutes plus 15 minutes reserve.
Enrollment: You must enroll for the exercises until one day before the first Großgruppenübung. All enrollments received until that time will be considered, but enrollments on waiting list might be moved to another group. Afterwards, until one day before the first Kleingruppenübung, changing the group by enrollment to another group will be possible subject to available space. Enrollments on waiting list then will no longer be accepted.
Absence from Kleingruppenübungen: If you cannot attend a Kleingruppenübung and you know it early enough, do not enter any crosses in the Kreuzelliste. You need not inform your instructor, submit a report. Also, it is not possible to change the group. Your absence will be excused in case of illness including COVID-19 infection or quarantine or work (send a medical certificate or statement by your employer to our secretary) or if you have an exam or must attend another course (download the form available on TUWEL, have it signed by the lecturer of the other course, and send it to secretary) or for other good reasons (contact the main instructor of the exercises (Hobler)). The proof of excuse must reach us before the 2. Klausur. If you know in advance that you cannot attend 3 or more of the Kleingruppenübungen, e.g., due to an employment, contact the main instructor of the exercises (Hobler) to get dispensed from attending Kleingruppenübungen. In case of excused absence your other scores will be upscaled so that you could reach the maximum score (for details see the LVA homepage).
Exams: You must register separately for each exam. Missing the 1. Klausur is handled analogous to absence at a Kleingruppenübung, i.e., your other scores will be upscaled so that you could reach the maximum score. If you cannot attend the 2. Klausur or if you simplay want to increase your score, you may take the Nachklausur. Scope of 2. Klausur and Nachklausur includes everything with emphasis on the second half. Be warned that the score obtained in the Nachklausur replaces the one of 2. Klausur even if it is lower.
The course is given in presence. Should the epidemiologic situation require switching to distance learning, you will be informed via TUWEL.
Further information is given in the introductory lecture and in TUWEL.
