After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the basic operation principles of main THz devices and THz techniques, they are able to orient themselves in the diverse technologies used in the THz frequency range.
THz systems and sources: short-pulse and continues-wave (CW) THz photomixing systems, Schottky-diode multipliers, THz quantum cascade lasers (QCLs), resonant-tunnelling diodes (RTDs), etc.
THz detectors: Schottky diodes, plasma field-effect transistors, Golay cell, pyroelectric detectors, etc.
The lecture course is to large extent based on the text book "Terahertz Techniques", Erik Bründermann, Heinz-Wilhelm Hübers, Maurice Kimmitt. Supplementary reading materials may be provided on the topics covered in the lectures.
Good basic knowledge of electronics, optics, semiconductor physics, and electrodynamics is a prerequisite for the course. The course is conceived for Master or PhD students. Bachelor students in the last semesters might be also capable to handle the content.
