Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • describe basic concepts of the formal and informal organization with subject-specific terminology,
  • put different theoretical concepts (e.g. contingency theory, principal-agent theory) into concrete practical examples,
  • analyze the practical problems of organizing and derive, evaluate theory-driven solutions for case studies,
  • critically evaluate the organizational topic from a management perspective.

Subject of course

The Course will entail the following topics:

  • Basics of division of labour and organizational design and structures
  • Organizational efficiency and process management
  • Contingency theory and outside influences
  • Informal processes and organizational culture
  • Organizational change and learning
  • Organizational cooperation and corporate ethic

Teaching methods

  • Introduction to the forces, dimensions and processes that take place inside and around an organization
  • Discussion about practical examples and case studies
