Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • to name and explain the four core elements of logistics. Furthermore, the students know the most important parameters of the individual core modules and can apply them in calculations.
  • The existing modes of transport, the associated means of transport and their selection criteria are presented. Furthermore, they can design the structure of transport chains, possibilities of transport organisation as well as actors involved in transport.
  • to basically describe the planning tasks in company networks and their interrelations as well as the most important optimisation models in network planning and to apply them in simple (calculation) examples. In addition, they know the basic strategies and procedures of local planning and can apply them in simple (calculation) examples.

Subject of course

  • Introduction to logistics and current trends: Definition of logistics, logistics as science, characteristics of logistics, importance of logistics, challenges in logistics, Phyiscal Internet, Augmented Reality, artificial intelligence in logistics, anticipatory logistics, robots in logistics 
  • Core components of logistics: formation of packages, storage, order picking and sorting, conveying, handling, freight transport 
  • Planning (demand and stock planning): demand planning, production program planning, quantity planning, order quantity planning, safety stock planning 
  • Procurement: Strategic design of procurement (procurement policy), operational processes of procurement, e-procurement  
  • Manufacturing (production logistics): vertical range of manufacture, production structures (factory planning), work structures, production planning and control, data management 
  • Supply (distribution logistics): distribution policy, distribution structures, network planning, distribution planning and control, legal regulations and guidelines in the transport sector 
  • Design and operation of value creation networks (SCM): supply chain design (fundamentals and structures), supply chain (demand) planning (planning and operation of WSN, logistics & supply chain controlling)  
  • Return (recycling): environmental protection and legal framework conditions, return concepts in value-added processes, return of transport packaging, return processes in the post-purchase phase

Examination modalities

Written exam

In order to take part in an examination, it is necessary to register in time (for the respective examination date) in TISS. Students who do not meet the registration deadline cannot take part in the exam! Enquiries in this regard will not be answered!

Examination Barriers

In accordance with the study regulations (Mitteilungsblatt 2014, 3. Stück; Nr.22), the following rules apply to the cancellation of examinations.

§ 18a. (1)) The students are entitled to cancel their examinations orally, in writing or electronically with the examiner or dean of studies at the latest two working days before the day of the examination.

(2) If students do not appear for an examination without having cancelled their registration in accordance with paragraph 1, the Dean of Studies is entitled to exclude these students from the registration for this examination for a period of eight weeks at the suggestion of the examiner. This period begins on the examination day on which the student, despite having registered correctly, did not appear without having cancelled his/her registration beforehand. The affected students must be informed of the suspension in an appropriate manner.

(3) If the student can prove that he/she has been prevented from deregistering in due time in accordance with paragraph 1 by a valid reason (e.g. accident) or another reason worthy of special consideration, the suspension must be lifted.

It should be noted that use is made of the option set out in paragraph (2) for students who do not appear at the examination without prior deregistration.
