2021W, VO, 1.0h, 1.5EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 1.0
  • Credits: 1.5
  • Type: VO Lecture
  • Format: Online

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to assess the anatomy of the respiratory tract and the physiology of the respiratory tract. Pressure values in lung physiology and in respiratory therapy are explained in detail as compliance, resistance, gas exchange in the lung, lung blood circulation, influence of haemodynamics on lung function are shown. Also the connection between cardiodynamics and lung is explained and the special problems of respiratory insufficiency are pointed out. The modern ventilation techniques currently in use are explained: conventional ventilation techniques, volume controlled pressure controlled ventilation forms: High frequency artificial respiration techniques, artificial respiration monitoring, possible fluid dynamic procedures under mechanical artificial respiration, structure and function of a artificial respiration device are likewise explained. Based on these processes, the student is able to identify simple possible connections between devices and clinical symptoms. Thus also occurring technical problems can be recognized.

Subject of course

Anatomy of the respiratory tract: physiology of the respiratory tract: pressure magnitudes in lung physiology and in ventilation therapy: compliance, resistance, gas exchange in the lung, lung (blood) perfusion, influence of haemodynamics on the lung function, respiratory insufficiency, ventilation techniques: conventional ventilation techniques, volume/pressure controlled ventilation modes: high frequency ventilation techniques, ventilation monitoring (capnometry), possible flow-dynamic processes under mechanical ventilation, composition and function of ventilation machines.

Teaching methods

The teaching session will be held on the basis of Power-point presentations as well as on the basis of a script which is available for each student. Questions will be answered and discussed immediately.

Mode of examination
