After successful completion of the course, students are able to solve basic numerical problems, which are relevant in many areas of mechanical engineering. This includes in particular problems of regression, solving systems of equaitions as well as the solution of eigenvalue problems. Students are introduced to the theory of the methods, but also learn their practical application both "by hand" and implemented in a computer program. Another learning objective is to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each method as well as their limitations in applicability.
All lectures are designed interactively. Theoretical explanations are accompanied by application examples. In the exercise part of the course, the theory is deepened by practical examples and the students are motivated to learn by suitable means, such as homework. Performance is assessed by means of a written examination.
