Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • assess fuels with regard to their quality properties critical for engine operation
  • assess the differences between the European standard specifications and the requirements of the European automotive industry in terms of relevance and avoidability
  • recognize critical fuel qualities in terms of engine operation and exhaust aftertreatment, as well as energy efficiency
  • classify alternative fuels compared to gasoline and diesel in terms of economy and environmental impact meaningful
  • assess interactions (of power) between fuels and lubricants during engine operation in terms of their advantages and disadvantages
  • evaluate engine oils for their optimal use in modern internal combustion engines
  • estimate the possible applications of different lubricants based on the requirements of the automaker sense

  • Lecture on the individual sub-topics

  • Discussion of case studies from the development of fuels and lubricants to effects of fuels and lubricants on vehicle operation in the hands of customers
  • Discussion on the topic of successful complaint processing for fuels and lubricants
