Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • define and explain the basic interrelations necessary to originate laser radiation
  • analyze and describe attributes of laser radiation
  • evaluate means of guiding laser radiation and judge mutual reactions between laser radiation and matter

Subject of course

  • Atomic structure
  • States of atoms and energy levels
  • Stimulated Emission
  • Composition of resonators
  • Beam propagation and absorption in matter
  • Systems for laser material processing

Teaching methods

  • Description and definition of decisive parameters in the lectures
  • Discussion of the consequences of different system conditions
  • Related in advance query of students' estimates
  • Compositions of system configurations and investigation of the consequences on beam quality, energy consumption and materials
