After successful completion of the course, students are able to

• state current requirements for machine tools in terms of accuracy, productivity, flexibility and costs
• explain the functional priciple of numerical controls
• explain structure and components of machine tools
• describe machine tool designs for essential production processes and corresponding tooling systems
• understand the structure and characteristics of multi-machine systems
• describe basic procedures for determining the working accuracy of machine tools

• structure of machine tools (operating area, components, tool and workpiece handling)
• requirements for machine tools (accuracy, efficiency, flexibility, integration, costs)
• machine tool designs according to technology
• tooling systems
• muli-machine systems (manufacturing cell, flexible manufacturing system, transfer line)
• acceptance testing of machine tools
• machine tool automation and numerical control

Lectures will be used to introduce and explain manufacturing systems and demonstrate their application by use of videos

Written exam at the end of semester
