Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to present his / her knowledge on the following subject areas orally and in writing with sketches:
1) Application of welded constructions in the various fields of mechanical engineering, advantages and disadvantages of welding in relation to other joining / manufacturing processes, weld seam (SN) shapes, types of joints, manufacture of SN using some welding processes, weldability of (metal .) Materials
2) Constructive representation and production of SN and welded components, strength and calculation of SN, the heat affected zone, residual stresses, warpage, strength-increasing measures, lightweight construction, technical welding drawing
3) Execution according to standards and regulations, construction and calculation guidelines, weld imperfections and weld cracks, non-destructive and destructive testing by SN
4) Carrying out a construction task: construction that is suitable for welding and in accordance with regulations, strength calculation5) Finite Element Analysis

Subject of course

1) A general overview of the welding application in the various specialist areas of mechanical engineering is given, advantages and disadvantages of welding in relation to other joining / manufacturing processes, weld seam (SN) shapes, types of joints, manufacturing of SN using some welding processes, Weldability of (metallic) materials 2) Using application examples: Presentation of the structural representation and production of SN and welded components, taking into account the principles of weldable construction such as weldability, residual stresses and warpage, strength issues and standards, application of lightweight construction criteria, application of weld symbols on the welding drawing , Execution of weld strength calculations, welding jig construction 3) The importance of standards and regulations, construction and calculation guidelines in the various specialist areas of mechanical engineering are addressed, non-destructive and destructive testing of SN, weld imperfections and weld seams, remedial measures and precautions such as reducing notches at the weld seams: weld pool protection 4) Independent execution of a given construction task to implement the theoretically presented points about weldable construction from the draft to the calculation to the detailed construction, taking into account the applicable regulations and / or lightweight construction 5) Finite Element Analysis

Teaching methods

In a theoretical part of the course, the most important topics are first briefly presented, which are then applied in the practical part: Development of a given application example by the student (s)
