Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to perform and document self-reliant engineering, design, and development tasks in the field of pressure vessel design according to a given goal.

Subject of course


Diverse topics of pressure vessel design – mainly focused on:

  • Stress analysis, Design-by-Analysis
  • Design of pressure vessels or details
  • Integration of pressure vessels in plants

Within the project, appropriate CAD- and FEM- software is used.

Teaching methods

Every student gets a problem of the field of pressure vessel design. The student has to solve the problem and to document the solution.

Additional information

Because assistance is given when necessary, it is possible to agree appropriate time to start the lecture. For administration, please register before March 31st.


Approach during corona crisis: Support via online meetings; Computations are done on students computers or on computers at the institute with virtual connection to students home computer. Depending on the task, meetings may also be held on site.

Due to the pandemic, the format of the course may vary.
