After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain the relevant legal structures (national law, EU law, Public International law), to describe relevant contexts thereof as well as important fields of informatics law and finally to explain current legal aspects of IT and the internet. They are able to name the legal methods of interpretation and to describe their use in practice. They are able to argue in important contexts of information technology law and to analyze simple facts from a legal perspective. Finally, students are able to competently discuss central legal aspects of IT-related issues with specialized lawyers.

This course focuses on "IT Law" (e.g. basic problems of law and technology, structural issues of IT- and Internet law, fundamental rights in the information society, telecommunications law, e-commerce law, IT criminal law, data protection law, intellectual property law, etc.). Participants are invited to engage intensively with the Internet resources provided via TUWEL and to actively participate in shaping the lecture. Current developments are continuously included and discussed at the intersection of law and technology.

Combination of presence and distance teaching. Contents are presented in lecture modules (comprehensive resources will be provided via TUWEL); those contents are furthermore applied in the accompanying exercises (via TUWEL, too). Students are required to earnestly engage in self-study periods, which are backed by way of the weekly lectures.

This course consists of a lecture component and an exercise component. The final mark results from an addition of the points of the written exam (lecture component) and the points of the exercises. Please note: The submissions in TUWEL are checked with Turnitin as standard.
