After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply their detailed knowledge about the essential development challenges of rural-alpine communities in southern Lower Austria. This includes in particular: affordable housing, scondary homes, conflicts of usage (e.g. recreation and forestry/hunting), public transport and mobility, nature protection, youth and educaton, etc.
The group embarks on a hike through the Vienna Alps – or rather the Vienna Woods, the Gutenstein Alps, the Türnitz Alps and the Mürzsteg Alps – with the aim of reaching the pilgrimage site of Mariazell. Along the way, we visit country inns and refuges for food and overnight stays, as well as various local politicians, leading companies and initiatives that are committed to the development of the respective community/region.
Kick-Off - Workshop: The Kick-Off will take place in the first week of Ocober and mandatory for all Participants (choosing the topics, planning/discussing the tirp). Excat dates follows asap.

The course uses a mix-method approach:
The excursion is primarily on foot. We hike together from Vienna (or Mödling) to Mariazell. That means daily stages of 20km and more and you have to carry your luggage on your shoulders. The paths will be easy hiking trails throughout, but there are stages with up to 800 meters in altitude. Please only register for the excursion if you feel fit for it from a health perspective. During the excursion there is of course the option of departing by bus or train
