After successful completion of the course, students are able to develop strategies and designs for regions that benefit from major projects in the field of rail infrastructure and to face the challenge of using these opportunities in a sustainable way.
Pack it up! forms a platform for architecture and spatial planning students to work together in teams to develop urban planning designs and transformation strategies for intercity train station areas on the green meadow in Tullnerfeld and Lavanttal whilst looking for new region or community based stabilities. The project focusses on the question of what effects massive changes in trans-European transport infrastructure corridors can have for neighbor regions and municipalities and how they can be dealt with. The focus is on regions that benefit from major projects in the railway infrastructure sector and face the challenge of a sustainable and early exploitation of these opportunities. The interaction of numerous environmental factors (location of the railway junction, direction of development of the municipalities, regional vs. municipal perspectives on certain problems, lack of interdisciplinary exchange, fragmentation of the landscape, etc.) result in complex problems for the neighbor communities. The students develop urban planning designs that are tailored to the local standards of the laboratory community. Additionally, measures and procedures that can raise awareness of recurring problems in other regions are also being explored.
