After successful completion of the course, students are able to...
... process, analyse and visualise spatially and planning based data.
... process questions relevant for planning and to elaborate on them using adequate software.
The course is devided in two thematic sections.
First thematic section – spreadsheet analysis and data processing
The course is initially concentrating on practice-oriented transfer of knowledge about the application of spreadsheet softwares. The students get to know the different tools for analysis of planning based data by using the widespread software MS-Excel. On the basis of these functions and tools, can then be considered examples of planning based data acquisition, preparation, analysis and visualisation. The aim of the course is getting know different approaches to questions of content and answering these questions based on analysis and evaluation. The examination mode is based on two computer-based test. First interim test: Application of learned tools and functions. Second interim test: Processing questions of content independently and creatively
Second thematic section – analysis and visualisation of spatially based data
The second thematic section is about the preparation and analysis of spatially based data by using statistics software (SPSS) and geo-information software (QGIS). Related with the presented methods and software tools, the students have to analyse the accessibility of public transport stations in vienna. This task must be processed in groups of two. The examination mode is based on a report on results in form of spreadsheets, maps, diagrams and analysis texts.
This course has an immanent mode of examination.
The examination mode for the first thematic block is based on two intermediate tests, each of which has to be solved independently on a computer at the EDV-Labor. Both tests have to be completed with a positive score. Basically, attendance at the intermediate tests is compulsory - please make a note on the dates early on! For proven excuses and those who haven't scored enough points on one of the two tests, there is a replacement test.
The examination mode for the second thematic block is based on a report on a spatial-analytical content-related question, which is elaborated in groups of two.
Detailed assessment criteria will be presented during the Kick-Off session and will then be available via TISS.
For all those students, who received a negative grade last year, but had a positive score on one of the two thematic blocks, we offer to credit this positively completed part from last year (but not from any other previous term). However, officially the whole course has to be taken again - thus, please register in TISS as usually and participate at the kick-off session - or write an email to Florian Pühringer latest until 02.03.2021 10 am!
Attention! This solution as a gesture of goodwill is set to end in SS2020.
