After successful completion of the course, students are able to recognise the importance of "phase 0" as a basis and catalyst for design processes and to successfully apply corresponding artistic and experimental methods for participation processes, especially in school space development, and to work out an artistic design on the basis of this.

Through subject-specific inputs from art, architecture and pedagogy as well as their own artistic-scientific research, students have acquired knowledge about relevant parameters of (school) interior design (e.g. visual ergonomics, accessibility, light, colours, materials, acoustics, etc.) and their influence on the atmosphere and teaching and learning performance in educational spaces.

They have a comprehensive understanding of the issues that can arise in the (re)design of school spaces and are able to apply and present these findings in design terms.

The course is part of the FFG-funded project "BiB-Lab / Innovation Lab for Educational Spaces in Motion" of the Arbeitsraum Bildung of the Vienna University of Technology (www.arbeitsraumbildung.at). In the course of the three-year research project, innovative design concepts for existing schools will be developed and exemplarily tested in the area of the Per-Albin-Hansson-Siedlung, in addition to participation and networking processes.

With the cooperation of visiting professor Beate Weyland, Free University of Bolzano, Institute of Educational Sciences, playful, artistic-experimental and participatory approaches to school space development and redesign will be developed for concrete space situations in the BiB-Lab partner schools in the Per-Albin-Hansson-Siedlung with the involvement of the stakeholders.

It is planned to implement a selection of the design proposals developed in this artistic project in the summer semester of 2023 as part of the "BiB-Lab / Schulraum-Labor 1:1" project with the involvement of the users.

Continuous attendance according to the semester calendar (listet below) is a prerequisite for positive participation in the course!

In case of a changed Corona situation, the format may be changed (e.g. change to distance learning).

The LVA hour quota amounts to a total of 250 working hours (1 ECTS = 25 semester hours per week). This means that in addition to the (attendance) times fixed in the course calendar, corresponding periods of time must be planned for carrying out the work assignments of the course.
