Hacking Wien West Design
The highly congested infrastructure axis - the Vienna West Entrance/Exit - runs between the Lainzer Tiergarten and the Ferdinand-Wolf-Park. In the past, the urban structure in this area, the river space and the public space were exposed to a planning paradigm based on the isolation of functions and a technocratic understanding of space.
Due to the renovation of the West Exit, this space is currently up for discussion, and the urgent question must be addressed: How can we deal with this important space, where ecological, climatic, social and infrastructural requirements collide, in the future? In fact, at the foot between Nikoailberg and Wolfersberg, a wide variety of spatial demands meet: a new interplay between mobility and green space, between private and public spaces, between sectoral and multicodal uses is to be explored.
On the one hand, we are looking for spatial visions (260.709 UE Entwerfen Wien West Design).
On the other hand, we are looking for visions of a sustainable social process that actively involves the human and non-human actors (260.807 UE Entwerfen Cocreation:Hacking Vienna), which meet and negotiate the space between Nikoailberg and Wolfersberg.
The course will reflect on the following questions:
- What spatial vision is needed for Vienna's entrée?
- How can different spatial demands and functions be developed in an integrated way?
- How can areas of cohabitation be created?
The course will be coupled with the design studio "Cocreation:Hacking Vienna". Joint cross-over workshops and meetings will reflect on the complex interrelationship between building and social processes in green and open spaces and give students the opportunity to exchange ideas on research, analysis and design.
Additional input will be provided by the following experts and local actors:
- Prof.in Dipl.-Ing. Cordula Loidl-Reisch | TU Berlin
- Prof. Dr. Henrik Schultz | Hochschule Osnabrück
- Univ.Ass. Dipl.-Ing. Gunnar Grandel | future.lab
