Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • develop an architectural design by considering context and background as well as specific aspects of the given design task, such as hierarchies of space, orientation, appropriateness balance of nature and architecture, dimensions, proportions, construction and materials.
  • understand architecture as an immersive spatial experience.

Subject of course

Architecture can be defined as frozen or solidified music. Architecture, however, is static and spatial, while music is dynamic and temporal. Perception can grasp movement in architecture only as the displacement of a moving body or the development of a form. The loop is as an endless strip which allows continuous repetition by connecting the end to the beginning. The design of an exhibition space as an infinite loop links the idea of music to architectural design. By stringing spatial elements together in a repetitive loop, the individual spatial sections line up like notes in a melody to form a sequence of impressions and become a moving whole.
