Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to see the vast societal transformations that go along with digitalization in a big picture. They have acquired ideas of how contemporary technology can be anchored with respect to the tradition of thinking about technics in the tradition of architecture.

Modulpräsentation (10 min clip)

THIS MODULE IS RESEARCH DRIVEN: IT IS AMBITIOUS AND CHALLENGING, AND REQUIRES SOME COURAGE.

BUT IT IS FOR ANY AND EVERY STUDENT EAGER TO FIND AND DEVELOP AN OWN VOICE AS AN ARCHITECT TODAY.

Subject of course

This module expands a set of instruments for digital architectonics, which introduces into how the structures of thought in architecture, mathematics, and philology, can play together upon the background of generic information technology, big data, and machine intelligence. The focus of our research is based on the problem diagnosis that we are experiencing upheavals with digitization that affect almost all aspects of our societies, and in which largely invisible and somewhat uncontrolled, new power structures emerge. For architecture and urban planning, this means a challenge that is very fundamental. Many conventional values become non-specific and diffuse into the generic. Cities and buildings need a new self-understanding and a new face.  We are looking for how general technology (digitalization) can be anchored in the thinking of the tradition of architecture, and how one can give a "face" to current power structures in the manner of the old treaties tradition.

Teaching methods

The lecture courses will be prepared in online form, as modular episodes. In parallel, there will be live discussions in ZOOM each Friday from 14:00 to 18:00, with all the lecturers from the different courses present together with the students of the module.

The exercise course consists of guided writing exercises with the intent to unite the acquired ideas in the active exploration of the genre of treatise writing.

You can find the pre-recorded lectures on the ATTP YouTube Channel.
