After successful completion of the course, students are able to analyse basic factors of spatial design and combine them into a synthetic spatial design in the form of simple design exercises. Students will learn to investigate spatial sequences and their architectural structure across scales from urban to small scale. They will understand the relationship between exterior and interior spaces as well as between spaces of various different public and private spheres and as part of the exercise will be able to apply and develop these independently. Spatial design factors, such as shape contexts, material properties, colour properties, daylight and artificial light and the parameters of design with wood, concrete, steel, stone, brick and plastics as well as the relationship between the design parameters will be analytically recorded by the students and checked for their influence on the design.
The essential qualities of the space such as dimensions, proportions, materials, light and colour are shown and their effect on the respective user is explained by means of successful examples. Lectures on the respective topic of the design exercise as well as on presentation methods complement the basic design principles. The following content is presented in the lectures: space and form, design criteria, material typology, representation, wood, daylight and artificial light, colour, plastic, metal, concrete, glass, stone and brick, ultra light & super strong. In addition, introductory lectures are offered in parallel to the exercises.
Lectures and discussions on main topics, exercise instructions, Tuwel courses, assessment of the teaching content in continuous assessment exercises.
All lectures on spatial design will be uploaded to TUWEL (course 256.100 WS2020) in good time and are available as videos.
Login for students in the winter semester 2020 is best via TISS VO interior design. After logging in, the link to Tuwel course 256100 is the direct entry point.
