After successful completion of the course, students are able to work on complex architecture and urban design tasks independently, systematically, and with an original, contemporary design approach based on a precise architectural language. Each participant will be competent to identify areas of action in an urban context and develop appropriate architectural solutions. Students will carry out independent research and gather topic-related fundamentals. Students will be able to develop design concepts and represent and present them comprehensively through plans and models.

Glacis 2050 is the second installment of our inve-stigation into Vienna’s Ringstrasse. In this case, the studio will take over the area between Stadtpark and Wien Mitte. 

Several urban infrastructures meet at Stadtpark: the Wienfluss and park itself, the Ringstrasse and Zweier-linie, as well as two metro lines, railway lines and the train connecting the city center with the airport at Wien Mitte, where a shopping center is also located. The studio seeks to survey the different levels of infrastructure along with the heterogeneous urban fabric to understand accurately the dynamics between these different layers. The intervention strategy will respond to the previous analysis, aiming to reshuffle critical aspects of the site with precise and synthetic design actions.
