After successful completion of the course, students are able to graphically represent and describe the relationship between the water and the city of Vienna, employing analytical drawings of specific architectural objects, territorial infrastructure, and geographical configurations.
This course is recommended in particular to the students attending all the Design Studios under "Glacis 2050" (Entwerfen "Glacis 2050") but not restricted to students enrolled in those studios.
Wahlseminar Gestaltungslehre – Waters of Vienna
The presence of water within the city of Vienna – eminently represented by the Danube, yet not limited to the river – is the result of a series of projects that have defined the quality and shape of the city throughout its expansion and determined its relationship with a vast territory. The goal of this course is to investigate this relationship and illuminate the presence of water in the urban context as a fundamental design resource by critically describing it with analytical drawings.Water is here seen as a catalyst in many aspects of the city's public realm: environment, social interaction, collective memory, and leisure.
Students will work in small groups (3ppl) on three assigned exercises, consisting of analytical drawings, under the supervision of the teaching staff.
