After successful completion of the course, students are able to use performative practice as a method of researching and questioning places and spaces. The students will develop new ways of asking questions about the body and space. At the end of this term, they will be able to theoretically and practically conceive and implement a performative project. The students have the opportunity to use the artistic-scientific methods tested in this course as an extension of their architectural working methods.
PERFORMANCE:ARCHITECTURE LOCATION: VIENNA NORTH RAILWAY STATION (PRATERSTERN) / VIENNA NORTHWEST RAILWAY STATIONThis designing gives the opportunity to use the performative practice for research and site survey alongside other methods. We have chosen the area of the Nordbahnhof / Nordwestbahnhof (VIENNA NORTH RAILWAY STATION (PRATERSTERN) / VIENNA NORTHWEST RAILWAY STATION) as the location for this design task, where we will work on aspects of space with these artistic-scientific methods. Space will be treated here in its fields of relationship to the city, to social, cultural and societal factors. This urban development area is currently not only one of the most exciting, but also one that lends itself very well to design with this orientation. After a research phase, the students will develop a concept for a performative work in the Nordbahnhof/Northwestbahnhof area. The students have the opportunity here to use the wide range that performative practice represents. They can realise a concrete action or performance on site, shoot a performative video, conceive the performance in the form of drawings or as a photographic work. Another important element of this course will be the presentation and documentation of the performative work. Discussions and reflections during the term will give students the opportunity to learn more about the art form of performance and to relate it to their own methods of investigating space and designing space, their own practice.
Input lectures, site visits, discussion and reflection talks, research, performative practice (performance, performative video, drawing, photographically documented performance ...), design elaboration, interim and final presentation.
Meetings every Friday 09:00 to 15:00 at the TU Vienna; teaching excursions to the North Station/Northwest Station area. Dates will be announced at the first meeting.
