Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe a research topic and work on it independently as part of their diploma thesis. The students learn to structure the shape of a thesis, to create a timetable and to work through a draft from the concept to the draft, to propose detailed solutions and to document the work comprehensively and to present it in bound form as well as verbally.

Subject of course

Identification of the topic, topic limitations, structure of the work, design support, detailed elaboration, schedule, presentation support.

Teaching methods

Through the analysis and comparison of existing projects and through investigations of differentiated architectural requirements, a point of view is formulated in the form of a written seminar paper which is to serve as the basis for the subsequent design.

Subsequently, and on the basis of a precise conceptual task, underpinned by a clear spatial programme, the various standards of the architectural design task are worked through both graphically and with the aid of work models.
