After successful completion of the course, students are able to methodically develop the design of a building. The students are able to understand design as an integral, at the same time rational as well as creativ work, which under consideration of different - often disparate and divergent - frameworks, which tries to converge these in an architectural project. They are able under consideration of current topics and positions to take their own informed stand and be able to apply this to knowledge their design. They are able to conceive archictectural concepts, develop these in their buildings and make their project visible through presentation with design and detailed plans.
Class changes following the corona pandemic (from 2.4.2020): this class will be held in distance learning mode until further notice.
We are living in times of great social, technical and economical changes. Architecture is a seismograph of society, it feels the pulse of these shifts and make them corporeal. At the same time architecture is not a mere passive receptor, but an active force - the role of the architect has always been to shape the direction. Our actions are thus determined by the highest societal consequences and responsibilities.
Within the design studio, there will be an examination of the sustainability of construction - materials and systems alike. Technical, but also social and economical aspects will be covered - the potentioal persistence of concepts, technologies, typologies. Based on an intensive inception phase, in which theoretical and historic modells of concepts in architecture will be analysed in form of literature research and reading, as well as accompanying lectures, there will be an individual interaction with contemporaray building. The goal of the exercise will be the design and construction related elaobration of a building. The function and typology of the building will be part of the anaysis and synthesis phase and shall reflect the different aspects of urban life in an individual composition. The construction will be determined by a confrontation with systematic and material-related topics.
Guided Designstudio: discussions and presentations
