After successful completion of the course, students are able to situate the art of installation in historical and current practice and understand its role in the development of the exhibition as an increasingly autonomous (art) form. They will be able to conceptually differentiate and precisely reflect the artistic and curatorial goals of spatial interventions in the museum as well as in urban space.
Historical and contemporary exhibitions in the field of tension between private and public exhibition formats will be analysed and contrasted, with a special focus on interventions in space. The historical investigation of the installation leads to a discussion of the changes it has brought about in the exhibition space and the associated museum typologies beyond collection formats. The precise knowledge of the exhibition history in relation to the space serves as a tool for dealing with questions of architectural typology.

The lectures and meetings take place weekly on Wednesday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
If, due to the requirements of the Federal Government or the TU Wien, it becomes impossible to hold the class, the examination, and/or the class meetings on site, the class will move online. If this happens, the announced dates for the class lectures and examinations (part performances) may change. If the class moves online, the following methods and modes will apply:

Exam mode when moving online:
Evaluation will be continuous even if the class moves online. The final presentation will be carried out on Zoom. Student work will be submitted in both analogue and digital form.
Assessment model for the online exam: both analogue and digital submissions and presentations will be assessed.
Required technical equipment for participation in the course and examination: stable internet access, Zoom or GoToMeeting.
