After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand architectural, constructive and sociospatial principles for planning and building in extreme enviornments. They are further capable to evaluate and apply them in their own design process.
Extreme physical, social and / or psychological conditions challenge the architectural design and construction of a building. Buildings in extreme environments will be discussed in regard to their design strategy, construction and material selection as well as their functional usability. The architectural design approach and its realization in terms of planning and construction, choice of materials as well as its usability shall be discussed on the basis of built examples.
