After successful completion of the course, students are able to identify and understand research-relevant aspects of heritage conservation and heritage studies. They will be able to research the assigned tasks, apply the acquired expertise and write an overview of the state of the art of research in relation to issues of heritage conservation.
Introduction to current challenges in heritage conservation and their embedding in the subject, learning the basics of research, understanding the structure of scientific texts, strengthening argumentation confidence and research-related work processes
We live in a dynamic time with multiple local and global challenges. In hheritage conservation, these topics are reflected both in theory formation and in practical tasks. Both have in common that position formation, decisions and consideration processes are based on research. Standards and methods of research also allow an interdisciplinary exchange and development of the subject. In order to be able to draw on research work in later professional fields, or to conduct research oneself, it helps to have gone through research processes. Research means to systematically build on what has already been worked out. In this lecture/exercise, students will use current challenges in architecture and historic preservation to break down and narrow down topics for the subject, develop a state of the art of research, and develop questions.
In the summer semester of 2023, the current challenges of heritage conservation will be migration, sustainability, participation and integrity/diversity.
