After successful completion of the course, students are able to develop a design project according to given tasks and prepare a comprehensive concept as well as a successful artistic design solution while taking into acoount historical buidling structures that may define the site. Students will be able to communicate key ideas and qualities of their concepts and articulate strategies that help to deal with local cultural heritage.
Historical Center of Laab im Walde
The historical center of Laab im Walde is the focus this student competion. The goal is to develop new strategies for the town center and to introduce new functions to existing historical buildings. Key topics include: the local civic center, a new design for the central square, a re-design of the historical village hotel that will be transformed to a new housing complex for young people. The historical town center needs a visionary design for the future that respects the historical character of the existing ensemble.

We will start with a comprehensive analyses that adresses issues of cultural heritage, in particular values in architecture, aspects of building preservation, and a discourse analyses. This will be followed by a step by step design phase where the theoretical concept will be transferred into an architectual design.
There will be an excursion to visit the site.
