Subject of course

Summerschool Monday, September 21st until Friday, September 25th 2020 at Schloss Heiligenkreuz Gutenbrunn

The research unit Building history and Building archaeology will be organizing a Summerschool in September 2020, consisting of three combined courses. The heart of this course will be a week of building documentation within the premises of late baroque castle Schloss Heiligenkreuz-Gutenbrunn in Herzogenburg, district of Sankt Pölten, Niederösterreich. For the duration of the summerschool can live at the castle free of charge (food/supplies not included). Enough rooms are in sufficient number, cooking possiblities are available, local restaurants can be reached.

In close contact with the architectural object, different methods of building documentation will be applied, especially terrestrial laserscanning and 3D models from photogrammmetry. Further, participants should be introduced in the collection of materials for analysis of historic substance and a possible project development within a historic context. Within small groups students will apply laserscanning and photogrammetry and operate the devices themselves. Afterwards, the collected data should be post-processed on site, joined together to one 3D model of the castle and deliver the basis for elaborating various forms of building documentation according to applicable standards and codes.

In reaction to a current COVID-19 pandemic a comprehensive concept to minimize the risk of infection for all participants and people involved was developed. With applying measures described below and a close monitoring of the most recent situation regarding infections it is the intention to make a course like this possible despite current limitations.

Additional information

To minimize a risk of infection during participation in this summerschool a series of measures are to be implemented. An registration to the courses is understood as consent to the compliance of these measures. In general Schloss Heiligenkreuz Gutenbrunn provides very advantageous framework conditions to avoid possible infections.
. far-streched premises allow spacial distancing between participants and work-groups during the summerschool
. for group discussions and introductions a large hall (196sqm) as well as extensive exterior areas are available, distance between participants can be kept
. participants are asked to be working in small groups and will at most share residential rooms with students of their work-group
. owner of castle will provide daily cleaning of common areas and washrooms, door handles and surfaces will be desinfected daily, dormitories will be remain untouched

additionally following measures are implemented:
. work-groups will be working in different areas of the castle, distance inside work-groups should be kept as good as possible
. devices will be desinfected before changing in between work-groups, small equipment will be available individually for each group
. liquid soap and face-mask will be provided by owner of castle in sufficient amount
. all persons of contact and participants of summerschool will be registered by owner of castle (name and phone number)
. teaching personell will be wearing face-mask and face-shield when working with participants to avoid infection in between work-groups
. all rooms with participants will be ventilated sufficiently to maximize fresh air input
. drawing of plans should be done on private notebooks of participants on site, devices should not be shared (software will be provided)
. COVID-19 coordinator will be appointed to ensure the implementation of these measures

Despite all measures it is crucial for all people involved to act in a respectful and responsible way at all times to allow such a course to be held at this point. After all implementations the participation in this course is still voluntary and at everyone's own risk.
