After successful completion of the course, students are able to develop a design project according to given tasks and prepare a comprehensive concept as well as a successful artistic design solution. Students will be able to communicate key ideas and qualities of their concepts.

This semester we will design an architecture school in Venice, Italy

 International School of Heritage Conservation (a postgrad School of Art and Architecure focusing on restauration) in Venice/ Arsenale

Revitalization of an Historical Ensemble and additional new architecture:

•Cultural heritage   & contemporary  Architecture

Task

•develop a catlogue of criteria for a new architecture  development in the historical ensemble of the arsenale area

• collect and present Best-Practice samples

• evaluation of the historical buildings on site, new design of an art and architecture school in the historical area of Arsenale in Venice  and a concept for the future cultural development

This design studio focuses on the potential of a historical ensemble within the Arsenale area of Venice. Students are asked to design an Art & Architecture school  in a highly sensitive environment that  is dedicated to the cultural heritage of Venice.

We will start with a comprehensive analyses that adresses issues of cultural heritage, in particular values in architecture, aspects of building preservation, and a discourse analyses. This will be followed by a step by step design phase where the theoretical concept will be transferred into an architectual design.
