After successful completion of the course, students are able to provide a general overview about roman sepulcral architecture and roman architecture in general, as it is visible in the city of Rome today.
Im Gegensatz zu einer eher theoretischen, sublimierenden Wissensvermittlung inVorlesungen und Seminaren steht bei den Exkursionen zur Baukunst die Konfrontation mit Bauwerken in ihren tatsächlichen Erscheinungsformen und ihrer baulichen und geschichtlich bedingten Komplexität im Vordergrund. Entsprechend dem jeweiligen Lehrveranstaltungskontext werden dabei Bautengruppen erschlossen, die durch ihren spezifischen, zeitlich-geschichtlichen, baukulturellen, baukonstruktiven oder bautypologischen Zusammenhang bestimmt sind.
Corresponding to the overall emphasis of the excursion, each participant will conduct research about a building to be visited or a specific aspect of the general topic and will present his/her findings as a contribution to group discussion before setting out on the trip. During the excursion this preparation will serve as the basis for an investigation into and lively discussion about various aspects of the selected buildings and topics. After returning, students experiences will be summarised and presented in a concluding session.
