After successful completion of the course, students are able to organize and document an international conference. Specifically it will be the organization of the 2nd Austrian Earth Building Conference in AZW.
The result of the seminar will be that people in Austria who deal with the topic of earth building - be it in research, teaching or in practice – come together in one place and to network with international experts in the field of earth building (in the course of the 2nd Earth building conference on 24 March 2023).
In the course of the seminar, interviews that have already been conducted with international earth building experts will be prepared and a brochure will then be compiled from the most important findings of these discussions. Selected experts from this list will be invited to the conference as keynote speakers. A separate homepage with information on the earth building conference will be filled out as part of the seminar, and the organization of the conference will also be the focus of the seminar.
Austria Earth Building Conferenz in AZW
Austria has a large number of historic mud buildings; it is assumed that e.g. For example, the Weinviertel has the densest concentration of clay buildings in Europe. In addition, there is – not least because of the price developments on the raw materials and energy markets – in the search for sustainable structural solutions there is great interest in using clay as an innovative, ecological building material in new buildings. More and more architects, building experts and building researchers are showing great interest in earth building. Clay as a building material is also moving back into the focus of planners on an international level.
On the one hand, this seminar will examine the diversity of the earth building landscape in Austria since the founding of an interest group, the Network Earth, in 2018. At the same time, the aim of this course is to show international examples of important earth buildings and to bring their representatives/planners/builders together with representatives of the Austrian earth building community at the 2nd Earth Building Conference in March 2023 in the Architekturzentrum Wien for an exchange of knowledge. Priority topics at this conference will be:
- the earth building stock and the redevelopment
- the presentation of new, innovative earth building projects
- the identification of relevant research projects
- existing training and further education measures in Austria, Europe and beyond.
