Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • name and classify influeces and design criteria of industrial constructions.
  • describe the procedure, systematic and managment of an project planning process for industrial real estate development.
  • name and classify criterias for location planning and decision for industrial buildings.
  • outline the different areas of use of industrial buildings.
  • apply methods and techniques of the architectural and structural design as well as location, infrastractural and development planning.
  • use the theoretical principles by solving a simple industrial construction task within the practical exercise.

Subject of course

The lecture will focus on the following topics: Economical, manufacturing, working-scientific, architectural and structural design factors of an industrial building. Procedure, systematic and managment of an project planning process for industrial real estate development. Methods and techniques of the architectural and structural design. Location, infrastractural and development planning. Building design, construction, technical expansion and control technology of industiral property.

Teaching methods

  • Teaching the theoretical principles in lecture blocks
  • Discussion of case studies in lecture blocks
  • Regular feedback to the elaborations of the industrial construction task within the practical exercise
  • Feedback within an interim and a final presentation of the industrial construction task of the practical exercise

Information to the practical exercise:

The exercise take place parallel to the lecture as teamwork in teams of two or three. Presentation of the task of the exercise and team positioning within a kick-off. There will be a compulsory attendance at the kick-off-presentation, therefore, a registration to the course is for organizational reasons only possible until the kick-off. If you are prevented from the kick-off-presentation, you can apologize by e-mail. Unfortunately we cannot accept a subsequent registration. In an interim presentation and a final presentation you present your results. In between there are meeting appointment, in which you show your intermediate results and receive feedback from your supervisor. Dates see below.

Examination modalities

Attendance: There is compulsory attendance, especially at the lectures, the exercise-kickoff and the excursion. 

The final grade of the course “VU Industriebau” results from the sub-rating of the lecture (weighting: X%) and of the tutorial (weighing: Y%). It is necessary to finish the lecture as well as the tutorial with a positive sub-rating to pass the course with a positive grade. The final grade will be transmitted via TISS.

Assessment of the practical exercise:

  • Immanent examination character within the feedback appointments: presence, service performance
  • Digital delivery of the protocols and the technical report
  • Digital delivery of the presentation posters for the interim and the final presentation
  • Introduction of the design solution within the interim and the final presentation
