Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to name the advantages of the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling), as well as compare integrated planning to the consecutive planning method, and describe points to be considered.

Subject of course

Practice part:

  •    Simulation of the planning process in the planning team
  •     Processing a planning task with a focus on costs and shedule
  •     Data preparation from a BIM model
  •     Cost calculation based on the BIM model
  •     Rough schedule creation based on the BIM model
  •     Construction phase simulation based on time scheduling
  •     Assessment of the recyclability, through the creation of a material passport


Lecture part:

  •     Introduction to the Approach to Integral Planning Processes
  •     Introduction to the BIM planning method
  •     Introduction to BIM-supported cost calculation
  •     Introduction to BIM-supported scheduling
  •     Introduction to the topic "material passport"

 

Teaching methods

  • Teaching of the theoretical basics in the lecture blocks
  • Discussion of case studies in the lecture blocks
  • Regular feedback on the elaborations of the exercise task
  • Feedback in the context of a final presentation

Information about the practice part:

The exercise will take place parallel to the lecture as group work in probably teams of 4. The task of the exercise will be presented in a kick-off. The team division will be carried out via TUWEL. Participation in the kick-off is essentialand for organisational reasons, registration for the LV is only possible up to the specified time. If you are unable to attend the kick-off, you can apologize by e-mail. Due to organizational reasons, we unfortunately cannot accept subsequent registration.

This semester you will be provided with BIM models, which are composed of BIM object catalogs. These models will be supplemented with cost- and schedule-relevant data and further costs and dates will be calculated. In addition, a recycling evaluation of the model is calculated with subsequent optimization.

During the semester, meetings will take place in which you will show your progress and receive feedback from your supervisor. In the course of the final presentation you will present your results. Dates will follow.

Examination modalities

The overall grade for "VU Planungsprozesse mit BIM" is obtained by taking into account the partial grades of the lecture exam (weighting: 30%) as well as the exercise (weighting: 70%), whereby the performance achieved in the corrections as well as the final presentation is evaluated. For a positive overall assessment, both the lecture examination and the exercise must be passed positively. The overall grade is transmitted in TISS.
