Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • Which driving mode is concerned    
  • Distinguishing between conventional and continuous propulsion    
  • Which auxiliary driving measures are used (drainage, ventilation, metrological procedures, ...)    
  • Which support means are installed    
  • Which inner shell type is used 

In addition, students are able to:     

  • Understand the fundamentals of geotechnical planning for underground structures    
  • To analyze and apply a mountain classification    
  • Use the tunnel-specific ÖNORM B2203 (part 1 cyclic and part 2 machine)
 

Subject of course

This lecture revolves around practical construction methods for the economical construction of adits, tunnels, shafts, caverns and no-dig lines. Drill and blast and mechanical excavations are likewise dealt with. The selection procedure of tunnelling methods and construction equipments as well as the cost estimation for adequate costs of underground projects should be worked out with students on the basis of few practical examples in completion to the lecture tunnelling methods .

  • 1 written review of the exercise success in the form of a colloquium     
  • Presentation on a selected topic

Examination modalities

Proof of performance is due to the presence, exercises, exam (written) and student presentations. In total 100 points can be reached. Finally, an oral examination will take place. To participate in this examination, the following criteria must be met:

  • reached at least 51 points
  • exercises worked out and handed over within the deadline
  • participated in written exam and got at least 16 out of 40 possible points (duration: 60 min)
  • presentation held (max. 2 students per group, 5 minutes per person)

After the first performance, the LVA is binding part. Thus, an assessment is made at the end of the LVA.

For a participation at the oral exam,  a minmum of 16 points at the wirtten exam is needed. If not so, the cours will be graded as negative.
