Subject of course

The following main topics will be covered in the lecture: The mediation of problem solving strategies for the implementation of innovative building greening, as well as for building demolition projects. The necessity of interdisciplinary approaches of companies, architects and specialist planners. The teaching of a basic understanding of the different fields of activity and technical terminology.

Topic 2020S: Effects of greenery and waste management in the building industry

The course includes 3 lectures on the topics:

  • Possibilities of building greening and their effects
  • Difficulties and possible applications of different building greenery and its management
  • Waste management in the AEC-industry: measures in the course of building deconstruction

Teaching methods

In this course the expertise of specialist planners will provide insights into the practical implementation of complex projects from the perspective of renowned companies, engineers and planning offices, and lay the foundation for an understanding of the other discipline. An introduction to different topics will be given and the knowledge will be discussed by means of case studies.

Lecture 1: April 22; 17:00-19:00 - Waste management in AEC

Lecture 2: April 29; 14:00-16:00 - building greening systems

Lecture 3: May 14; 15:00-16:30 - building greening best practice

Lecture 4: May 20; 14:00-16:00 - green infrastructure - normative foundations and planning instruments

Procedure:

After an expert lecture of about 1.5 hours, the presented contents will be discussed. A report is to be written for each of the lectures.

Examination modalities

You must fulfil the following conditions to pass the course with a positive grade:

  • Attendance at the lectures.
  • Create a term paper for each of the three lectures.

This papers must include:

  • A cover sheet with name and matriculation number
  • 1-2 pages summary of the presented contents (at least 500 words)
  • 0.5 page own opinion on this topic should be incorporated into the work by pointing out possible problems, suggesting solutions and pointing out additional possibilities (at least 200 words)
  • Emphasizing one's own opinion through short research and integration of sources and pictures in the report
  • The report shall be written in english or german
