After successful completion of the course, students are able to:
- explain problems of urban sewer construction in terms of storm water treatment
- to select solutions for storm water treatment
- use relevant simulation software
Approx. 90% of the volume of combined wastewater sewers is required for the discharge of storm water. Therefore, the handling of storm water as well as information on the amount of storm water entering the sewer system at a particular time are essential for the dimensioning and restoration of sewers. During the last years, practical experience has shown that the earlier doctrine of discharging surface water to the sewage system as quickly as possible has to be questioned more and more. Therefore, the following topics will be dealt with in this lecture:
- handling of storm water in settlements, alternatives to discharge into sewer
- treatment of surface water depending on the degree of pollution
- sewer overflow and treatment of combined wastewater
- dimensioning of combined sewer overflows
- minimum efficiency of polluting load transport
