Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

- recognize essential measuring instruments in the field of wastewater treatment and explain the principle of operation

- reproduce simple control concepts for wastewater treatment

- organize and visualize operational data of wastewater treatment plants

Subject of course

You will be introduced to process measuring and control technology, which is needed for the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, and have a close look at the lab-scale plant in the Von der Emde-Technikum. Data surveys, evaluations and calculations will be carried out. In detail, the following topics are covered in this tutorial:

  • process measuring and control technology in wastewater treatment
  • sampling and sampling equipment
  • test kits for wastewater parameters
  • probe measurements
  • signals, signal transmission, control technology
  • evaluation of operating data, calculation of mass balances
  • hands-on control technology (Edukit)
  • microscopic view at activated sludge

Teaching methods

Lecture, group work, discussion of case studies.
